Alcoholism
Humanity came across alcoholism from time immemorial. As far as dawn of civilization, intoxicating and befuddling drinks came into use, and meanwhile the attempts to release the persons abusing them from their baneful influence arose
Alcoholism is systematic intake of alcoholic beverage in dozes that cause alcoholic intoxication. Chronic alcoholism is a disease that is characterized by constant need in intoxication by alcoholic beverage, nervous system and internal organs disorders, personal and social degradation.
Need in alcohol is not one of natural vital needs of human being. Ethyl alcohol as any poison provokes the reaction of rejection (heave) in organism. During first alcohol taking, a human being usually does not only feel pleasure, but also feels strong discomfort. Unpleasant feelings arising out of poisoning (vertigo, movements coordination disorder, time and space disorientation) may cause fear and other unpleasant emotions. During repeated alcohol intake the organism adapts to the poison and artificial senses of excitement and elation becomes of main importance for mood of human being.
Increase in doses of alcohol and frequency of its intake may lead to transformation of so called everyday drunkenness into chronic alcoholism. At its initial stage, attraction for drunkenness strengthens and steadiness (tolerance) to alcohol growths.
If the person does not give up drinking (that is still possible by voluntary effort), the next stage of alcoholism will come. It characterizes by abrupt increase of attraction for alcohol, the highest tolerance, lose of control over amount drunk; abstinence syndrome occurs (“hangover”). The signs of affection of nervous and cardiovascular systems, liver and other organs.
On the third stage tolerance dramatically falls down. Drunkenness is caused by very low dozes. Alcoholic degradation of personality takes place: social motivation loses sense for the person, all his thoughts are aimed to drunkenness. At the different stage alcoholic psychosis occurs (jealousy delirium, delirium tremens etc.).
